Have you ever been attacked? Do you know the biggest phishing in the history of cryptocurrencies?

What is “phishing” and how to avoid it?

Phishing is one of the most common cybercrimes in which the scammer tries to get access to the users’ private information such as passwords or credit card data. Phishing is usually done through a fake website, a malicious link, or a deceptive SMS. It is considered a kind of social engineering because the user himself/herself gives the information to the scammer. However, there are some ways to avoid falling victim to phishing attacks in the world of cryptocurrencies.

1. Pay attention to the websites you visit and check for the accuracy of their addresses. Phishers sometimes try to fake valid websites by making a small change in their addresses. When visiting well-known websites and using them, double-check the accuracy of the address and make sure that you have visited the original website.

2. Avoid using fake applications and wallets. Don’t download and run any application on your devices. There are several valid cryptocurrency wallets that have millions of users and are recommended in the crypto society. Try to choose one of these wallets and use their official websites for downloading the application.

3. Don’t trust “free cryptocurrency projects”. There are some projects that invite users to sign up and receive free cryptocurrency. These projects are appropriate means for phishing. The vast amount of email addresses the scammers collect helps them with achieving their goals.

4. Keep your browsers and antiviruses up-to-date. Download the latest version of your browser and update your antiviruses. The later versions have stronger anti-phishing algorithms and antiviruses also play a key role in fighting phishing malware.
